Our Family of Schools

Home Learning

At Glascote Academy, we appreciate the demands of being a parent and, where possible, we will always adapt our approaches in response to parental feedback. Therefore, we have made the decision to make changes to our weekly homework. We are asking you to support your child on a daily basis by reading with them at least 4 times a week. Reading is key to all learning and pupils who read regularly make better progress.  Make time to read daily with your child. Use the reading book your child brings home from school as well as their library book.  Also, ask your child questions about what they have read, such as “How do you think Cinderella felt when she couldn't go to the ball?  How do we know this?

As well as reading, we are asking you to support your children with the following:

Here is a flowchart of the days homework is sent home and when it needs to be returned to school.

We also believe that it is important to make time to listen to your child and have conversations with your child about everyday things, such as a visit to the supermarket or a walk to the park.  During these conversations, point out what you see, hear, smell and touch using all your senses.  Get your child to join in and this will help build their art of conversation and vocabulary.  Play games such as I spy on your travels too!

On school days, ensure your child has plenty of sleep by going to bed early, so they are ready for a full day's learning. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit, reading book and library book in school on the required days.

Most importantly, enjoy spending as much quality time with your child as possible and by giving them your full attention!
